Janmashtami marks the divine birth of Lord Krishna—the endearing Makhan Chor and Bal Gopal whose childhood was filled with unconditional maternal affection, overflowing pots of milk, butter, and joyous laughter. Across millions of homes, devotees fast, decorate swings, and offer elaborate delicacies to welcome the deity.
Yet, as we celebrate the playful boy of Gokul, thousands of living reflections of Bal Gopal spend their day hungry on the bustling traffic signals of Mumbai or long for a warm festive meal in orphanage dormitories in Pune. Gopal Poshan Abhiyan was born from a simple realization: the highest worship of Krishna is recognizing him in every child who goes to bed hungry.
Childhood undernutrition remains a stark reality for vulnerable youth in urban and semi-urban pockets:
Street Children of Mumbai: Hundreds of toddlers and young children living under flyovers and around railway stations lack access to clean, calcium-rich milk and basic hygienic nutrition, leaving them vulnerable to developmental delays.
Institutional Care in Pune: Shelter homes like Matruchaya Balak Ashram provide a roof and safety, but festive celebrations and wholesome, nutrition-dense feast days require community-driven support to bring joyful normalcy into their lives.
Location 1: Matruchaya Balak Ashram, Pune
Objective: Serve hot, nutritious, festive three-course meals to every orphan resident.
Menu Highlights: Puris, Shrikhand/Kheer, Paneer Bhaji, Dal, Jeera Rice, and seasonal fruits.

Imagine a three-year-old child standing by a busy crossroad, watching temple lights and festive sweets from behind a glass window, holding an empty cup. You have the power to replace that hunger with warm milk, fresh snacks, and a joyous festive meal.
This Janmashtami, do not let your devotion remain confined to statues and altars. Let your prayers take the form of warm food, full bellies, and beaming smiles. Feed Bal Gopal where he lives today.
At Sukachi Sawali Welfare Foundation, we hold your trust as our most sacred responsibility. Every single rupee you donate is a sacred trust (Amanat) entrusted to us to bring warmth, dignity, and food to those who need it most.
Financial contributions drive our logistics, but our people bring the soul. We believe that physical presence, advocacy, and voice carry equal weight in transforming these children’s lives.
